Aunt Lucie's Story
Lucie founded her mission in Port-au-Prince in 1999 with a goal to improve the living conditions of children in the town of Delmas. She was deeply touched by the suffering people and made a decision to get involved with the most vulnerable. Her objectives were to help the destitute, orphaned and abandoned children live with human dignity. In order to do this, Lucie has focused on implementing and improving the following areas: education, evangelization and professional training. She also has founded a "Welcoming House" which currently has 11 vulnerable children that she has welcomed into her home. Some were orphans and had been abandoned, other children had been living in extreme poverty. It is her desire for them to live in a family atmosphere. In order to provide for the educational needs of the children she has rescued, she founded a primary school which is attached to her home. This school also provides an education for many of the children in her town of Delmas. In the beginning stages of her mission she was able to achieve her goals with personal money and the assistance that she received from her adopted father. Her prayer to God was to give all her life and everything she had for the realization of this project.
In 2018, she was greatly blessed when her niece, Louceline, told some of her friends at Grace Church in Wooster about her Aunt Lucie's need for help. Lucies words were, "The Lord put on our path dear friends who have devoted themselves to saving this beautiful work which was in danger. Their support has greatly enabled us to grow. We were able to restructure the schools so the teachers can work in better conditions and the students are more apt to learn. Besides the usual school studies, we were able to do arts and crafts, sports, sewing, computer science, school festivities, and activities centered around books. These areas had almost been blocked for the previous 2 years due to lack of resources."
As Lucie came to the end of the previous school year in July of 2023, she was facing the thought of quietly walking away and closing the mission. Because of the gang controlled country, most parents cannot afford to pay anything for their child's education. This resulted in lack of money to pay the teachers. Lucie said, "I had forgotten that this was a mission God had entrusted to me for these people. I went to my room and prayed. Two days later God manifested His presence through a call from some of my friends in a Grace Group. They had taken an offering for me and it was a living testimony of God's favor to this mission. It immediately made me think of the following Bible verses."
Psalm 127:1
"Unless the Lord builds the house those who build it labor in vain; unless the Lord guards the city, he who guards it watches in vain."
Psalm 4:1 & 2
"Blessed are those who think of the poor and the weak, in the day of misfortune, Yahweh keeps them, He gives them life and happiness on earth."
Matthew 10:42
"Whoever gives one of these little ones a drink, just a glass of cold water, as a disciple; I tell you the truth, he will not lose his reward."
Lucie's mission does not receive grants and it does not work in partnership with any other organizations. Therefore, your support is appreciated more than words could convey. She tried to express her thanks with these words:
"All of you, dear benefactors, who never bargain over your support for the weakest, I carry you in my heart in the name of the mission with much love and gratitude."
